Olympic athletes in Sierre Leone

The photographer Seamus Murphy and the writer Alex Duval Smith went to the troubled country of Sierra Leone in May 2000. Amidst the familiar evidence of cruelty and chaos, they found a group of dedicated athletes desperate to compete in the Olympic Games in Sydney. I discovered this reportage particularly interesting because of the conditions in which these athletes train, compared to other world-class athletes.
